Alan E. Garvey's Obituary
Alan Eugene Garvey, age 83, passed away on Wednesday, December 16, 2020. He was born in Muskegon Heights on October 17, 1937 to Harley and Reeta Garvey. Alan is survived by his wife of 62 years, Shirley; three children, Lisa (Dave) Emig, Gina (Greg Sr.) Bulson and Matt (Karen) Garvey; ten grandchildren, Lindsay (Phil) Mixter, David (Allison) Emig, Derek Emig, Greg Jr (Nadedge) Bulson, Kate (Rick) Egeler, Nick (Tricia) Bulson, Brendan, Kaitlin, and Kara Garvey and special granddaughter, Angie (John) Montalvo; 16 great-grandchildren; sister, Judy Ferris; sisters-in-law, Sandy Kroll and Mitzi Shmidt; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by eight brothers and three sisters.
In 1999, after 35 years, Alan retired as a Plant Supervisor from Geerpres Wringer. Alan's many interests included car racing, hunting, golf, bowling, construction, karaoke and fabrication. He was a "jack of all trades" and master of them too! He was an intelligent, hardworking man that could fix anything he put his mind to. No job or task was too intimidating. He would research, figure it out and do it. Most importantly, Alan was about family. He would always go above and beyond for them and would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need.
A Memorial Mass will be taking place for Alan and Shirley at 10:00 AM on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at St. James Catholic Church, 5149 Dowling St, Montague, MI 49437, with a time of fellowship taking place afterwards.”
Memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
