Betty L. Graham's Obituary
Betty Lucille (Schultz) Graham, age 97, flew away to be with her Lord and the loved ones who went before on November 21, 2023. She died peacefully surrounded by love at the home of her son, Gary.Betty was born to William and Christina Schultz in Montague Michigan, the 11th of 12 siblings. She attended Montague Public Schools and was one of the last surviving members of the MHS Class of 1944.In 1946, Betty married the love of her life, David Graham. Together they worked hard to make a happy home for their three children. They built or remodeled many homes in Montague until they built their dream house in the country in 1966. She worked hard but also liked to have fun! Betty enjoyed dancing, playing cards with her friends, going to the Casino, bowling, volunteering, and cheering on the Detroit Tigers. She took joy in all her grandchildren and her 20 great grandchildren. She knitted sweaters, hats, afgans, and mittens for grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and many others. When Dave died in 1983, Betty called on her inner strength to finish raising their daughter, Susan, take over the tasks that Dave usually performed, and to carry on. She was very patient with young children so a job at the Montague Elementary School working with children was a natural fit for Betty. Many of those children recall how much they loved her even 30 years later!Betty valued her independence and lived on her own until the last 2 weeks of her life. Her friends at "The Apartments" were very important to her.Betty was preceded in death by her husband David W. Graham, her parents and siblings, special nephew Chuck Schultz, special niece Karen Stebelton, and many friends. She is survived by her children William (Kathleen), Gary (Janet), and Susan (Bill) Johnson, eight grandchildren Sarah, Amelia, Tim, Brandon, Travis, Candace, Lauren, and Erik, 20 great grandchildren, special nieces Lois, Shirley, Cheri, and Judy, as well as her sisters- in- law Doris, Lucy, Jeanette, Jo, Bonnie, and Mary, many other nieces and nephews and her special grand dog, Rafa.A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
