Bryan L. Bates' Obituary
Bryan L. Bates age 63, passed away on Tuesday August 22, 2023, at home, after a hard-fought battle with kidney cancer. He was born February 11, 1960, in Muskegon, to Marva D (Bates/Knutson) Cleveland. Bryan graduated in 1978 from Reeths Puffer HS and he spent 19 years working at Sealed Power, Hy-Lift Division. When Bryan wasn't working, you would be sure to find him at his favorite fishing spot - catching fish for his much-loved fish fries or tending to his garden, that he had the ability to grow anywhere. He was always proud of his garden and loved giving away veggies to everyone he met. Bryan had the biggest heart, loudest laugh, funniest jokes and the best stories! In his final years, under hospice care, he had grown to love the nurses that took care of him: the hospice team and nurses, Sue RN, Cynthia RN, Sarah RN, Tammy RN, Kelly LPN, Tina HHA, Judy HHA, Jennifer social worker and Tim as well as others. Also, Cylinda from Heart and Hand in home care. Our family is forever grateful for the love and compassion that they showed Bryan, over the years. We take great comfort in knowing that Bryan's earthly job is complete and that he is fishing in the best fishing holes, in Heaven.
Bryan is survived by his mother Marva (Bates/Knutson) and her husband Harry Cleveland. His sons: Dakota (Kaila) Burch, Bryan Urcavich and Jimmy, as well as his grandchildren. Siblings: Joe Knutson, Paul (Anna) Knutson and Paulette (Dave) Ronning as well as several nieces and nephews. Bryan was preceded in death by his sister, Brenda (Knutson) Ronning in 2003 and his grandmother, Hazel Turns in 2007 and well as other close family and friends.
According to Bryan's wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at Breakwater Church of Nazarene, 1150 Seminole Road, Norton Shores, Michigan 49441. Friday Sept. 1, 2023 at 11:00 AM..
