Carl George Johnson's Obituary
Mr. Carl G. Johnson, age 96, passed away peacefully after a short illness on October 1, 2021. Born and raised in Hesperia, Michigan to Walter and Lottie Johnson, Carl served in the U.S. Army in Europe in WWII from 1943 to 1946. He retired from Brunswick Corporation after 35 years in 1981 and enjoyed his retirement spending many winters in McAllen, Texas and travelling the country with his wife, Florence.
Carl was preceded in death by his wife of 39 years, Florence, in 2019. Also preceded by his brother and wife Jack (Jean) Johnson, sister and husband Eleanor (Forrest) Fogg, brother Bernard Johnson, sister-in-law Margaret Johnson, brother-in-law Don Strayer, and stepson Larry Sowles. He is survived by his brother Murray Johnson, his sister Pat Strayer, sister-in-law Elaine Johnson, stepchildren Sharon Sowles, Diane Sowles, Wayne (Alice) Sowles and Nancy (Rick) Cramblet, several nieces and nephews as well as many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at the Laketon Township Cemetery, 620 Horton Road, N. Muskegon, on Tuesday, October 12 at 11:00 AM with Reverend Craig Cramblet officiating. Carl will be buried with Military Honors provided by the Muskegon County Council of Veterans of Foreign Wars. Memorial contributions may be directed to West Michigan Veterans, 165 E.
