Carla J. Skoglund's Obituary
Carla Jane Skoglund, age 85, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, passed away peacefully at home under the loving care of her family. She was born on July 18, 1939, in Muskegon, to the late Dewy H. and Lavina Hansen. Carla was married to her loving husband, Richard Skoglund, for 65 years. She was preceded in death by their son, Richard Skoglund Jr, and her sister Shirley Mergan.
Carla's memory lives on through her husband, Richard, her children Laurel (Ken) Simons and Dan (Jeannie) Skoglund, and her grandchildren, Rachel Simons, Richard (Josefine) Simons, Kimberly Skoglund, and Kaitlin (David) Genslak. She is also survived by her sister, Geraldine "Gerry" Collins, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Carla served her community with dedication and compassion. She worked as the Director of Surgical Services at Mercy General Hospital and later as the Executive Director of Muskegon Rescue Mission, touching countless lives through her work. A longtime member of Olivet Evangelical Free Church, Carla was an active participant, serving on multiple boards and committees.
Funeral services to honor Carla's life will be held at Olivet Evangelical Free Church, 6790 Harvey, Spring Lake on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be held also at the church, on Friday, November 1, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. She will be remembered for her caring spirit, her dedication to service, and the deep love she held for her family and faith.
Interment will be in Lakeside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to Muskegon Rescue Mission or Olivet Evangelical Free Church.
