Charleen Diane Studaven's Obituary
Charleen Diane Cecilia Studaven (nee Smith), eldest daughter of the late Charles and Aileen Smith, was born and raised in Chicago, IL eventually making her home in Blue Lake Township, MI with her husband, Donald.
As a young mother of four she put herself through college, became a working mom and
provided for her family beginning a career in Civil Service.
She encouraged her children to pursue their passions and made sure they were exposed to a wide range of experiences beyond the limits of their immediate surroundings.
Later in life she met Donald Studaven, the love of her life. Their marriage was long and happy.
Their home was loving and open to an ever expanding family.
Charleen was a voracious reader and had a lifelong love of books. She had an appreciation and keen eye for beautiful old things, pottery and tea pots in particular. Little wonder then that in retirement she served, at times, as a librarian, substitute teacher and antiques dealer.
Over decades, from diagnosis and treatments to remission and recurrence Charleen faced breast cancer head on with courage, strength and humor. Beating every medical prediction for her odds she lived to celebrate her 82nd birthday. She has been an inspiration.
We feel her loss deeply. We are sustained by her memory. We continue to celebrate her life within our own.
Charleen is survived by her four children: Michael (Robin), Jeffrey (Kathleen), Aileen (Randy), Howard (Christine); her seven grandchildren: Thomas (Neeva), Lisa, (Nick), Jason, Ashley (Duane), Stephanie, David (Laura), Benjamin, great grandchildren: Terra and Nolan, Zoe and Caleb, Greyson, Avienda, Laichlan; Charleen's two sisters: Bonnie Bradley (Wayne) and Dawn Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; two grandchildren, Erik and Rachel; and a great-grandchild, Payton.
"Charleen was not keen on having a service or memorial. However, and in lieu of flowers, if you'd like to raise a glass in her name...She'd have loved that."
