Charles F. Hostad's Obituary
Charles F. Hostad age 86 of Norton Shores was born in Detroit, Michigan on October 4, 1928 to the late Charles and Viola Hostad, and passed away on November 20, 2014. Charles lived in Ravenna and Norton Shores most of his life. He married Blanche Pierce on April 5, 1946 and she preceded him in death in 2012. Together they had 4 daughters, Sharyn Parsons (deceased), Gayle (John) Muller, Rhonda (Eugene) Johnson, and Connie (Allen) Wahr; 7 grandchildren, Kimberly (Richard) Rudicil, Kathi VonLinsowe, Kerri Ryan, Jamie (Jeff) Moore, Laura (Jacob) Steenhagen, Jeffrey Johnson, Marvin (Jenn) Muller III; 13 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren. Charles worked at Brunswick Corporation for 35 years and was the Plant Manager when he left there to move to Antigo, Wisconsin for 3 ? years to build and operate a bowling pin factory for Vulcan-Brunswick where he was General Plant Manager. Charles also owned and operated Black Lake Stables with his wife Blanche from 1962 to 1986. He spent many of the stable's years taking his daughters to local and state run horse shows to barrel race. In addition, he ran his own barrel racing shows for part of that time, providing competition for local kids of all ages. Charles was a member of Brunswick Keymans Club. He also belonged to the Muskegon Railroad Historical Society, being an avid collector/builder of model train layouts. He enjoyed motorcycle riding for most of his life, traveling all over the United States with his wife and their friends. He and his wife Blanche enjoyed going to auctions. Working around their home, and being involved with their children and their families. According to his wishes cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life Gathering for both Charles and Blanche will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 6, 2014 at All Shores Wesleyan Church, 15550 Cleveland St. Spring Lake, Michigan. Memorial contributions may be directed to Harbor Hospice.
