Daniel R. Light's Obituary
Daniel R. Light, 82, of Muskegon, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on January 13, 2026. A lifelong resident of Muskegon, Dan dedicated many years of his professional life as a computer systems analyst before retiring from Bissell at the age of 55.
Daniel was born on April 29, 1943, in Muskegon, Michigan, to Robert Light and Lillian (Nitz) Light. On September 26, 1964, he married his high school sweetheart, Joyce, also in Muskegon, beginning a marriage that would span decades and be filled with love, family, and shared memories.
Dan had a deep appreciation for the simple joys in life. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed fishing, and was a devoted sports fan, especially when it came to football and hockey. He cherished spending time with his family, whether it was playing cards, rolling dice, or playing online Texas Hold’em, always enjoying the friendly competition and connection. He also loved going to flea markets with his son in search of what he fondly called “rusty gold,” always hopeful to uncover a hidden treasure or a good story. He graduated from Reeths-Puffer High School in 1961 and carried his school pride with him throughout his life.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce (Charles) Light; his children, Daniel Light and Kelly (Light) Brunk; his grandchildren, Alex (Durda) Magaluk, Nikki (Hudson) Budzyn, Corinn Light, Brianna (Vallier) Black, C.J. Brunk, Kamden Cornelisse-Light, Samantha Vallier and Jenna Light; and his cherished great-grandchildren, Addie Magaluk, Ezra Skinner, Carson Lanore, Aspen Magaluk, and Aulive Magaluk.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Light and Lillian (Nitz) Light; his sisters, Judith (Light) Johnson and Diane (Light) Baxter; and his beloved daughters, Jill Light and baby Kimberly Light
In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A private celebration of life will be held at his favorite restaurant with close family and friends, honoring his memory in a way that reflects his spirit and love for togetherness.
