Daniel J. Martin's Obituary
Daniel James Martin, age 84 died peacefully on December 23, 2023, after years of fighting debilitating illnesses. He was born April 18, 1939, to Francis and Cecilia Martin. After graduating from High School Daniel joined the United States Navy and served 2 years active duty and 4 years in the reserves. Daniel married Ida Munson in 1963 and they divorced after 15 yrs. He was employed as a carpenter and was especially talented in design with a passion for unusual shapes and styles. He was generous with his skills and helped many people either for limited charges or free. Unfortunately, his career ended abruptly after a fall from a ladder in 1995 which injured his sight and shortly after that he developed cancer forcing him to retire completely. Daniel leaves behind one daughter Kim Martin Tanner, and one son Kip Martin, one granddaughter Crystal, three grandsons, and a great granddaughter Rachael. four siblings his twin brother Donald Martin, Joe & (Kathy) Martin, his caretaker and sister Mary (John) Allen, Suzanne & (Charles) Brown and special longtime friend Joan Ackenbach. He was preceded in death by his parents Francis and Cecilia Martin, sisters Joan Harker, Ruth Stevens, Therese Smith, brothers Robert Martin, and Thomas Martin.
According to his wishes cremation has taken place. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 5, 2024, at St. Francis deSales Catholic Church, 2929 McCraken Street, Norton Shores. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to The Newaygo County Compassion Home 20 S.
