David Carl Ahlstrom's Obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of David Carl Ahlstrom. Born April 20th, 1962, and passed away peacefully on July 20th 2026, at the age of 64. David was a beloved father, grandfather, brother, husband, and friend.
Dave was born and raised in Royal Oak, Michigan. As a young adult, he moved to Nags Head, North Carolina; where his parents and sisters had settled. It was there that his lifelong love of the ocean, traveling, and fascination with storm chasing truly flourished.
Of all the roles Dave held throughout his life, being a grandfather brought him the greatest joy. He treasured every moment spent with his grandchildren and especially loved cheering them on at their sporting events. His grandchildren brought endless pride, laughter, and purpose to his life.
Dave is survived by his wife Kari Anderson; children, David (Shelby) Ahlstrom and Christina Colson; his beloved grandchildren, Brooklynn and Colton Colson, Dawson Ahlstrom; his sisters, Donna Martin and Cheryl Pulley; bonus children, Steven Anderson, Scott (Lauren) Anderson; bonus grandchildren, Amaya, Malia, Spencer, and Chase Anderson; along with many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald "Pop" and Carol Ahlstrom.
Dave will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, his love for the Detroit Tigers, traveling, his fascination with storms, and above all, the deep love he had for his family. His kindness, strength, and unwavering devotion to those he loved will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing that his legacy lives on through the family he cherished so deeply. He will be forever loved, forever missed, and never forgotten. In honor of his wishes, there will be no service held.
