Deborah Kay VanWyk's Obituary
Deborah Kay VanWyk age 69 was born on April 22, 1950 in Muskegon, Michigan to the late Arthur O. and Sarah F. (Shaw) Dean and passed away at Mercy Hospital on April 3, 2020. Deborah is survived by her daughter, Amy (Robert) Yonkman; grandchildren, Lillian and Isabella; three siblings, Kevin A. (Robin) Dean, of Kalamazoo, Brenda A. (Robert) Moler, of Apple Valley, Minnesota and Steven C. (Theresa) Dean, of Muskegon; several nieces and nephews, many great friends including, Debra Klotz, Karen Marie Hale; Goddaughter, Karly Patrice Hale; and canine companion, Buddy. Along with her parents, Deborah was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Matthews, and nephew, Jeff Zachariason. Deborah was a veteran of the United States Navy. She was an avid advocate for mental health and enjoyed her work at Community Mental Health as a peer support specialist. She thoroughly enjoyed being able to help others who were dealing with some of the same struggles she herself dealt with throughout life. Deborah collected cameras, she loved music, photography, mostly nature and was an avid reader. Deborah enjoyed watching shows about forensics and going for walks. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life Gathering is planned for sometime this July, the family will announce specifics at a later date.
