Dennis N. Wilber's Obituary
Our brother Dennis, a Christian & child of God, was called by our LORD to come Home in the early morning on Thursday, July 2, 2020. He was taken after fighting a long battle with Pancreatic Cancer, and peacefully passed away during his stay at the Poppen Hospice Residence here in Muskegon. Dennis was born in Muskegon on September 30, 1955 and was sixty-four years old.
Locally, Dennis was a member of the Olivet Evangelical Free Church - Marquette Campus here in Muskegon, where he had attended for many years prior to his disabilitating illness. His faith and love in God, and his religion were his first passion in life.
Dennis worked at the Alcoa - Howmet Aerospace facility for many years in Whitehall, MI. His work there was his second passion, as well as his close friendship with several co-workers there; especially his friendship with Audrey & Jim Asmodt.
His next passion was his friendship with his friends & the staff who worked at the Steak & Egger Restaurant on Holton Road, in North Muskegon; where he was considered a "regular", eating there almost daily for many, many, years, before heading off to work in Whitehall.
Dennis took great pride as a veteran of the U.S. Army having served honorably for eight years where he worked as a Medical Specialist for four years, and then as a Psychiatric Specialist for his last four years. Having been stationed at Ft. Sam Houston - Texas (medical training); Ft. Ord - California; and Ft. Richardson - Alaska; his "happiest" tour of duty came when he was stationed in Europe with the Second General Hospital in Landstuhl, Germany for three and a half years. While there he had the opportunity to travel & visit various parts of Germany & Europe. After his discharge from the Army, he settled in Ft. Wayne, IN, and later moved to Toledo, OH, before moving back here to Muskegon, where he settled down permanently.
He was preceded in death by his Mother, Louretta L. Knott and Sister, Jeanette Brooks. He is survived by his sister, Catherine & (Dan) Kolkema, and his brother Raymond & (Jessica) Wilbur, as well as several Nieces and nephews and their children as listed: Jason, Cora, & Brandon Kolkema of Muskegon. Michelle & (Alex), Anthony, & Juliana Platt; and Austin, (Betsy), & Leo Brooks, all of Ft. Wayne, IN. JoAnne Placencia, Kimberly Wilbur, Kristian Duncan, Christopher Wilbur, & Andrew Wilbur, including Alona, Ethan, Mark, & JoAnna, all living in Southern California. He is also survived by his closest friend of all, Debbie Polly, of Ft. Wayne, IN.
Between his family, his church, his work, and his close friendships, he will be fondly remembered and deeply missed.
