Doris Elaine Murie's Obituary
Doris Elaine Murie of Norton Shores was born on May 31, 1928, to the late Adry and Mary Wood in Muskegon Heights, Michigan and passed away on July 8, 2023. Doris was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Stewart Murie Sr.; sister Joyce Laird, and brother, Thomas Wood. Survivors include Stewart (Veronica) Murie Jr, of Fruitport, Douglas Murie of Norton Shores; three grandchildren, David, Brian, and Rebecca; four great-grandchildren, Payton, Caroline, Lela, and Claire.
Doris attended Muskegon Heights Schools, graduating in 1947 from Muskegon Heights High School, at which time she was working as a nurse assistant. She worked at both Mercy and Hackley Hospitals. She also worked for 20 years as alterations supervisor at JC Penney's. She married Stewart Murie of Grand Haven, Michigan on March 4, 1950, in Muskegon, Michigan. He was the love of her life. She loved having friends and family for birthdays and holidays. She was a member of the Breakwater Church of the Nazarene, where she sang in the choir and played the piano and held various other positions in the church.
For the last 12 years she has attended Oak Crest Church of God, 1540 Leonard, where a Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday, July 27, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. Bishop Richard Rogers officiating. Visitation will be held, also at the church, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. Doris will be inurned next to her husband Stewart in Norton Cemetery.
