Elizabeth "Betty" R. Vanderweele's Obituary
Elizabeth "Betty" Ruth Vanderweele of North Muskegon, Michigan passed away June 1, 2024. She was born September 24, 1929, an only child to Edward and Pauline (Blaser) Brandenburg of Dunedin, Florida. Elizabeth was a loving wife of 66 years to William (died in 2021), mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She leaves behind the family she loved so much - children Linda (John) Brevick, Nancy (Mark) Thorne, William Jr. (Lori) Vanderweele, grandchildren Julie (David) Rogers, Justin (Melissa) Brevick, Austin Vanderweele (d), Braden Vanderweele, Steven Thorne, and Holden (Julia) Vanderweele, and 5 Great Grandchildren.Elizabeth was born in Bradenton, and grew up in Dunedin, Florida. She met William while attending St. Petersburg Junior Collage when he was working for a lumber business in the Tampa area. They married on April 2, 1955 in Dunedin and she left Fl and moved to Muskegon, MI. Bill and Betty enjoyed many wonderful years together socializing with friends, traveling the world and wintering in FL, especially after Bill retired in 1988. She loved being around people and could start a conversation with just about anyone. Once you were her friend, you were her friend for life. Very thoughtful, positive and supportive and made sure to send out cards for any and every occasion. Kept a full social calendar with many events to celebrate with family and friends.Elizabeth was a long time North Muskegon resident, spending Winters in Dunedin, Florida with her parents and cousins. She was a member of First Congregational Church, Muskegon Country Club and the Greater Muskegon Service League. Betty loved her family and staying in touch with friends in North Muskegon and Florida in the winter. Always welcoming and enjoyed taking everyone out for dinner.Preceding Elizabeth in death were her parents, her husband and grandson Austin. She always told us she would be up on her cloud when she passed, watching us...so think of her when you see a nice, fluffy one.A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held on Thursday, June 27, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at First Congregational Church, 1201 Jefferson St. in Muskegon.Elizabeth's cremains will be buried at Laketon Township Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate any memorial contributions to Community Foundation for Muskegon County (Austin Vanderweele Memorial Norse Football Fund) or Harbor Hospice of MI.
