Elizabeth "Betsie" Chapman's Obituary
Elizabeth, age 77 was born on April 22, 1940 and passed away on September 26, 2017. According to her wishes, cremation has taken place. Betsie is survived by her husband of 55 years, Greig Chapman; her daughter Christine Chapman with grandchildren Naoto and Takashi Yoshida; her son James Chapman and his wife Heddy Elizabeth-Doyle Chapman with grandchildren Teagan, Braden, Ellah and Keelie Chapman; and her sisters, Marge Eaton and Sally Newton. Betsie was a member of multiple musical groups including West Michigan Concert Winds, New Horizons Band, and the Prevailing Winds Band. She was a retired teacher of the Whitehall and Reeths-Puffer school systems, as well as a teacher and advisor at Muskegon Community College. Betsie was also a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, a philanthropic organization promoting educational opportunities for women. Betsie and Greig are longtime members of the Central United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir. Her Celebration of Life Service will be held at the church (located at 1011 Second Street in Muskegon) this Sunday, October 1, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. A continuation of fellowship with refreshments will take place afterwards. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution in Betsie's name to Kids Food Basket, a program empowering communities to attack childhood hunger so that young people can learn and live well.
