Garnet Lemoine Levandoski's Obituary
Garnet Lemoine Levandoski passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, October 27, 2021. She was born on January 30, 1934 to Ira and Opal (Flint) Hoover in Crystal, Michigan. Garnet married the love her life, Martin Levandoski, on July 28, 1951 in San Antonio, TX when she was just 17 years old. She had never been outside the United States and had rarely left the small town of Luther, Michigan where she lived. She received orders from the military to travel to France, where she would begin life with her new husband. It's incredible to think of the strength she possessed to make a trip to Paris, France on her own, make a life with the man she had just married, in a country where she didn't speak the language and without friends or family. She had her first child, Roxanna, in Paris, France in 1953. They traveled to Germany, Washington State, Alaska, and Colorado where they were blessed with their son, John and daughter, Robin. She and Marty eventually came home to retire in Montague, Michigan. She studied for and received a Ham Radio Operators license while in Alaska. She got her motorcycle license in Michigan. Her only regret was that she had never finished high school. While raising two children, she began taking classes to obtain her diploma. She received her diploma in 1989, the same time her daughter, Robin, graduated from High School. She loved crocheting, knitting, working in the yard, reading and spending time with family and friends. Garnet was an extraordinary woman who would do anything for anyone. She always saw the good in people. More than anything, she loved being at her husband's side as they explored life together for over 70 years. She was happiest surrounded by family, and her much-loved dog, Bandit. She found great comfort in her faith. She never met a stranger. Anyone who met her loved her and immediately became family. She was called an angel here on earth, and she was certainly that to all of us who knew and loved her.
Garnet is survived by her husband Martin, daughter, Roxanna (Larry) Herder, son, John (Vicki) Levandoski, daughter, Robin (Alan) Frees, six grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren and many more who thought of her as grandma or Aunt Garnet. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ira and Opal Hoover; sisters, Dorna & Vonda Westbrook; brothers, Derald "Fuzzy", Gerald "Dean", Loyal "Norris", Henry, Carl and Rex Hoover.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, December 11, 2021 at the American Legion in Whitehall, Michigan with Visitation beginning at 1:00 pm, followed by a Celebration of Life service at 2:00 pm. Donations in Garnet's name can be made to the Alzheimer's Association
