George E. Abbott's Obituary
George Emery Abbott, age 80, passed away on Saturday, February 17, 2018 with his family around him. He was born on July 15, 1937 to Ernest J. and Marion E. (Rich) Abbott in Ann Arbor, MI.
George worked for GTE for 29 years as an engineer and supervisor in the engineering department. He was a person that never met a stranger, he would talk to anyone. He enjoyed motor homing and being a member and newsletter editor for 12 years with the Michigan Knights of the Highway. He looked forward to the rally season, so he could see all his friends and share stories with them.
He leaves behind his wife of 37 years, Janice (Mitchell, Bovenkerk): his children, Keith Abbott, Paul (Vickie) Abbott, Eve (Steve) Douglas all of Muskegon, John (Lorraine) Abbott of Grand Rapids, MI, Glenn (Karin) Abbott of Muskegon and Todd Abbott of Grand Haven, MI; step-children, Cathy (Jeff) Phipps of Fremont, James (Jody) Bovenkerk of Rockwall, TX; 18 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Shirley Perin and Jean Broberg.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, February 22, 2018 at 11:00 AM at The Lakes Community Church of the Nazarene, 2270 S. Mill Iron Rd. in Muskegon. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Parkinson's Foundation or a charity of your choice.
