George Matthews Churchwell Jr.'s Obituary
George Matthews Churchwell Jr. was born to the union of George and Lula Churchwell on August 13, 1977, in Muskegon, Michigan. George passed away on January 4, 2026, at Riverside Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Grand Haven, Michigan. George or “Georgie” as family called him was baptized at an early age at Christ Temple Church in Muskegon Heights, Michigan. After George changed his life he accepted Christ.
George endured a long-term illness that took over his body until his untimely death.
George leaves to cherish his precious memories, Father, George Matthews Churchwell Sr., brother, David (Nicky) Churchwell Sr.; niece, Letrice (Tresa) Churchwell, Desiree, Unique, Jada, Aaliyah, Churchwell; nephews, David Jr., Diont’e, DeVont’e, Gerald Jr., Jaylen, C.J. Churchwell. Bonus brothers, Andre Kitchen Sr., Kenny Pegues, Gerald Franklin, and bonus family, the Franklins, along with a host of great nieces and nephews, and a host of aunties, uncles, and cousins.
George was preceded in death by his mother, Lula M. Churchwell, and a sister, Delilah Churchwell, uncle Calvin Churchwell and Aunt Rose Jones; and grandparents, Calvin and Katherine Churchwell.
The family of George M. Churchwell Jr. wishes to express their sincere thankfulness and appreciating for all the kindness and love show to the family and a special thanks to Riverside Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, PW Services, Family and Friends and Shoreline Memorial Services.
There will a Celebration of Life Gathering for George on Friday, January 16, 2026 from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at Shoreline Memorial Services, Muskegon Chapel, located at 137 E. Laketon Ave. followed by a Repass will be held at the Smith Ryerson Center located at 650 Wood Street from 4:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m.
