Gerta (Svoboda) Ernst's Obituary
Gerta (Svoboda) Ernst, age 96 was born in Prague, Czech Republic (formerly
Czechoslovakia) on March 31, 1924 to Josef and Anna (Schwarz) Svoboda and
passed away on April 21, 2020. Gerta is survived by her two sons, Peter
(Kristine) Ernst, Andrew (Mary Alice) Ernst; grandchildren Angie (Ryan)
Hallberg, Laura (Jordan) Schwartz, Kayla Ernst, Matthew Ernst, Audrey Ernst,
and Grace Ernst; three great-grandchildren, Evan, Connor, and Bryce. Gerta and
Gerhard met in 1954 on the boat to America, married in September 1955, and were
together for almost 65 years before Gerhard preceded Gerta in death by 38 days.
Gerta spent many years in Europe as an elementary school teacher, and was an
avid painter and gardener.
Private services will be held.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Noah Project and Hospice can be made in Gerta's memory.
