Gordon E. Lydens' Obituary
Gordon Elwyn Lydens passed away at his home in the early morning hours of July 23, 2020 following a long battle with Crohn's Disease, Renal cancer, and Duodenal cancer. Gordon was 62 years old and is preceded in death by his father, Elwyn Lydens. He is survived by his wife of 42 years June Lydens, mother Leona Lydens, brother Raymond (Janet) Lydens, his daughters Kelly (Matthew) Tennison and Kristi (David) Klinger, and his beloved dog and companion Sadie. Gordon also leaves behind grandchildren Brooke, Ethan, and Noah, as well as nephews Troy and Scott, grand-dogs Tritan, Chester, Neo and Cooper, and many other friends and relatives.
Gordon was born October 2, 1957 to Leona and Elwyn Lydens. Brother Raymond soon joined the family, shortly before the passing of their father, Elwyn. Gordon played an important role from a young age, acting as a solid point for his family, as he would continue to do throughout his life. He was a man who always valued the importance of family - even more pointedly in his later days. For them, he was always there, and leaves a void that cannot be filled.
Gordon is a retiree of Morrison Industrial Equipment, where he worked for more than 20 years. He was a member of the National Rifle Association, Michigan Coalition for Responsible Gun Ownership, and the Cadillac Winter Warriors snowmobile club. He held an enjoyment of life that you could see poking through at the corners of his eyes and when he cracked a smile. A lifelong camper, hunter, snowmobiler, boater, kayaker, motorcycle rider, and Jeeper, Gordon enjoyed the woods and waters greatly. His final resting place will be in Northern Michigan, where his heart so often was.
Gordon was a man whose life was too big for the world. As good a job as he did containing it in a physical body here, he has finally been released from it. Though we look forward to seeing him again one day, we still see him here. He is the cautious preparation as we embark on adventures. He is the teacher, mentor, and father figure the men adopted into his family try to be like. He is the steadfast resolve his family shows once their mind is made and path is set. He is the service to family and friends that always made time, because they are what matters. We will miss him, more greatly than can ever be put into words.
Gordon's visitation and funeral services will be held at White Lake Wesleyan Church, 503 S Division St, Whitehall, MI. The visitation will be July 28 from 2-3pm with funeral services immediately following. A luncheon will be provided at the church's reception hall after the funeral.
