Helen M. Canter's Obituary
Canter, Helen Margaret Bennett Hart, age 90 passed away on Monday, August 31, 2020. Helen was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, September 18, 1929. She was raised by Fred and Mary (Porter) Hart of Shelby, Michigan and Chicago, Illinois. While working at the drugstore in Shelby, she met her husband Ronald Canter. Together they had three children. Once the children were grown, Helen joined her husband driving a semi-truck across America, enjoying many adventures along the roadways.
They retired in Coldwater, Michigan. Helen enjoyed gardening, crochet and ceramics. She especially enjoyed bird watching and feeding wild birds. For the past 3 years she has resided in Muskegon near her beloved children.
Her husband preceded her in death in 2018. Survivors include her children Michael (Darma) Canter, Karen (Mark) Ford and Polly Wesley. Helen had 7 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. Helen was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her family was her greatest joy.
Helen's family is very grateful for the loving care provided by the staff of Sanctuary at the Oaks and Harbor Hospice. A family celebration of Helen's life will be held at a later date.
