Jack L. Taylor's Obituary
Jack L. Taylor, age 77 was born on October 15, 1941 in Muskegon, Michigan to the late Marvin H. and Jennieve M. (Bartlett) Taylor and passed away at home on Saturday, March 30, 2019. Jack is survived by his wife of 51 ½ years, Sue Taylor; son, Tom (Carolyn) Taylor; five grandchildren, Courtney and Kirk, Jared, Alyssa and Alexis; two great-grandchildren, Noah and Nora; brother, Marvin (Darlene) Taylor; daughter-in-law, Amanda Taylor; in-laws, Linda (Jim) Lewis, Steve Foltynewicz, Pat (Kurt) Linderman, Leo (Deb) Foltynewicz, John Foltynewicz, Teresa (Rick) VanLue, Cathy (Randy) Brenny; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Louie. Along with his parents, Jack was preceded in death by a son Jack G. Taylor; and sister, Mary Dexter; and a brother in infancy. Jack served honorably in the United States Army from 1964 until 1966. He started hill climbing in the mid 1950's at the age of 14. He turned professional at the age of 18 and rode in many races mainly in Indiana and Ohio. Later, he rode Flat Track Motocross. In 1966 Jack started his career in professional hill climbing and in his first year he finished fifth at the Mount Garfield Hill Climb. In 1967 he won the Nationals in York, PA. They had a Point Hill Climb at Mount Garfield and he won that, in 1968 the Nationals were held in Muskegon at Mount Garfield and he won again there. Jack is the only two-time National Champion from Muskegon. Jim Snell, a good friend of Jack's built his hill climber. Jack retired from Lift-Tech after 44 ½ years of service and was an avid hunter who greatly enjoyed spending time in the woods camping with his wife and hunting deer with both of his sons and lifelong hunting buddy, Fred Spier. According to his wish's cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held at Bridge Bible ChurchNorth Campus, 3777 Holton Road, (located behind Dalton Baptist Church) North Muskegon, on Saturday, April 6, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Marvin Wassink officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to the Life Circles, 560 Seminole Road, Muskegon, Michigan 49444 or Shriners Childrens Hospital.
