James McGraw's Obituary
James McGraw, age 81 was born on January 17, 1945, in McGraws, West Virginia to the late Miletus and Helen McGraw and was received into Jesus’ arms on January 31, 2026. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his younger brother Jerry McGraw, his brother in-law James (Zeke) Fortner, his step granddaughter, Daryn Renee’ Worpel, his former spouse, Brenda K. Tennison, and his dearly beloved companion of more than 45 years, Ruthanne K. Erickson. Jim is survived by his son Donald McGraw, his three stepdaughters Debra (Tom Hull) Erickson, Dawn (John) Erickson-Stevens, Kimberlee (former spouse Joseph Worpel) Erickson, step grandchildren Shae Stevens, Colin Worpel, and Jolee Worpel, and by his sister Ann Fortner, and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Jim enjoyed fishing, hockey, hunting, gardening, and selling cars, but more than anything he enjoyed spending time with his grandkids. He refereed basketball and football for the Muskegon High School Athletic Association for several years and earned the nickname “Quick Draw McGraw.” He worked for Intercity Dispatch prior to retiring. Jim was a reliably hard worker and an equally reliable jokester, whose playful nature will be sorely missed.
Jim and Ruthanne spent their last three years at Intersect Health Care (formerly Mission Point) of Grandville, MI. Jim tenderly checked on Ruthanne each night until her passing and joined her in heaven just ten short weeks later. When he wasn’t checking on Ruthanne, he could most often be found in the cafeteria, watching a sports broadcast - with the remote safely hidden away under his hat.
According to his wishes cremation has taken place. The family will hold a private gathering in the spring. If you would like to make a donation in memory of James McGraw, please consider the Muskegon High School Athletic Association for their focus to provide outreach to youth through sports.
