James Arthur Smith's Obituary
James A. Smith, age 85, passed away peacefully on October 24, 2024. He was born in Eubank, Kentucky on February 5, 1939. He was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers, three sisters, and his beloved son, Gary. James is survived by wife of 63 years, Karen; children Rebecca (Brian) Kaufman and Carl (Ashley) Smith; daughter-in-law Kim Smith; sibling Steve (Rhonda) Smith and many nieces and nephews.
James was a devoted grandfather to Kyle (Shriyani), Ryan, Evan, and Alex Kaufman, as well as Ben Smith and Sam Miller. He enjoyed attending his grandchildren's activities, camping and teaching them about classic cars. He was blessed to meet his great-grandchildren, Finnegan and Faeya, and eagerly anticipated the arrival of twin great-grandchildren in the spring of 2025.James was a long-time employee of Clarke Floor Machine. James was also a Sunday school teacher, choir member and served on several boards during his long-time tenure as a dedicated member of Lakeside Baptist Church in Muskegon, Michigan.
James's family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff of Christian Care and Harbor Hospice for their support and care; and to all those who have lifted them with prayers, visits, encouragement, and kindness.In lieu of flowers, contributions to the family discretionary fund are appreciated and can be made c/o Karen Smith.James was thankful for and loved his family. In accordance with his wishes a cremation has taken place and a celebration of life for family and friends will be held at a later date.
