Jeffrey Scott Maycroft's Obituary
Jeffrey Scott Maycroft, age 62, of Muskegon Hts. passed away on March 15th, 2023. at 7:15pm with his son "Bug" by his side, while Strawberry Fields by The Beatles was playing. He was born on October 23rd, 1960 in Muskegon to the late Eugene Leroy "Duke" Maycroft and Phyllis Esther Beattie. In addition to his parents Jeff was preceded in death by his brothers John, Mike, Steve and sister Victoria. Jeff worked for many years at Cable TV of Muskegon, helping to provide many people with access to PPV events in the 90's. He later owned his own business Carsmart. He finished out his career working at Auto Part stores in town.
Jeff was from a large family of Musicians, he himself also being one, playing guitar and singing in many bands. Most notably The Weasels in the early to mid 90's. He cut his teeth in the local music scene, playing with the Johnny Mitchell Band in the 80's. During this same period of time, he was a bouncer at The Roxy and On Broadway for many years.
For all that knew Jeff, you are sure to have an interesting story to tell about him. Never one to shy away from telling everyone what was exactly on his mind, he made many friends through the years. None more so than his best friend Alfonso Loera who preceeded him in death in 2000. Jeff loved to recite a verse from his favorite artist "All these places have their moments, with lovers and friends I still can recall, some are dead, and some are living. In my life I've loved them all"
Jeff spent the majority of his life, as he referred to, being an "amateur crime buff". He studied predominantly 1920's & 30's Chicago Gangsters. Attributing his advanced knowledge of the subject to help write many crime books by providing research and pictures. He was also featured on documentaries aired by the History Channel, PBS, and The Discovery Channel.
Jeff is survived by his son, Jeremy (Spring) Maycroft, two grandchildren, Aryanna Maycroft and Bailey Vuurens, brother, Chris (Lynette) Maycroft, special nephew, Dennis (Vivian) Bromley, uncle, Dave (Linda) Maycroft, many nieces, nephews, and cousins, as well as his two surrogate sons, Brian Cole and Darryl Stuthard. The latter of which, Jeff would often say "asked one time if he could stay with me for the holidays, unfortunately, he came on New Years and stayed 'til Christmas...."
In accordance with Jeff's wishes, cremation has taken place and no services are planned. There will be a small graveside service at a later time at the Ravenna Cemetery next to his brother Stevie.
