John G. Schaalma's Obituary
John G. Schaalma was born in Muskegon on January 1, 1927 to the late Jacob and Clara Schaalma and passed away on September 12, 2017 at the age of 90. Along with his parents, John was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Gloria Schaalma; three siblings, Harold Schaalma, Dorothy Pulsifer, and Kenneth Schaalma. John is survived by his children, Deborah Schaalma, David (Heidi) Schaalma, Cheryl (Mark) Radecki, Cathy (David) Verschueren; six grandchildren, Christine (John) Malosh, Kimberly Watson, Samantha Schaalma, Alec Radecki, Emily Radecki, Kyle Schaalma; great-granddaughter, Macy Malosh; siblings, Betty Klootwyk, George (Carol) Schaalma, Steven Schaalma. John was a veteran of the United States Army serving during World War II and was a longtime member of VFW Post 446. He was retired from Hagstrom Floor Sanding where he worked with his brothers. He was an avid sports fan including the Detroit Tigers and University of Michigan sports. Interment will be next to his wife Gloria at Norton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to the Hume Home or Great Lakes Caring Hospice.
