Kathleen Mary Briggs' Obituary
Kathleen Mary (Carney) Briggs, 83, of North Muskegon died December 10, 2020 at Mercy Hospital in Muskegon.
Kathy was born April 20, 1937 in Muskegon, Michigan to Howard Francis Carney and Lavinna Fern (Zerlaut) Carney. She was the youngest of the three siblings. She married Nelson George Briggs at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Muskegon on January 13, 1956-a Friday. Kathy and Nels had three children: Chris, Jill, and Colleen.
Kathy spent many years working as a nurse aide in addition to caring for the family. She and Nels later worked as a truck driving team, often sharing stories of the interesting people and situations they encountered. Kathleen was a long-time member of Fifth Reformed Church in Muskegon where she and Nels worshipped and volunteered.
Kathy enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren along with camping and traveling to East Jordan and Rapid River to look after the final resting places of her ancestors. In recent years, she loved watching the sunsets and ships on Lake Michigan. She will be remembered for her love and support, cheerful humming, and sweet tooth.
Kathy was preceded in death by her older sister, Dorothyea Shaffer. She is survived by her husband Nelson and brother Howard "Jim" Carney; children, Chris Sr. (Cynthia), Jill Lacy, and Coleen; grandchildren Chris Jr. (Melissa), Nathan, Adrienne (Carl III), and Paul; step-grandchildren Meredith (Brodie), Adam (Megan), and Jacqueline (Elijah); great-grandchildren Nathan Jr., Nikolai, Hali, Walter, William, and Felix; and step-great-grandchildren Keegan, Apollo, Lumen, and Millicent.
A graveside memorial will be held Friday, December 18, 2020, at Laketon Township Cemetery, Pastor Scott VanArendonk officiating. In accordance with MDHHS guidelines, attendance will be limited to immediate family.
