I knew Ken back in the 1980 & 90s. We were roommates for a few years in Grand Rapids. He was soft spoken and while often taciturn in groups, loved being with his friends. Ken had a remarkable thoughtfulness and sensitivity. He wasn't one to demand a lot of attention but if you took the time to engage in a conversation with him, you'd always come away impressed with his appreciation of life and his curiosity and understanding of the world.
I remember one night after a big snowstorm he and I walking around Grand Rapids in the quiet stillness of the deep snow, talking about whatever came to mind. We laughed and talked for hours as we wandered around the night. He was insightful and sentimental and had a kindness and wisdom unusual for someone so young.
Ken always embraced life. He was always an important part of our group and we had a lot of fun together. Hearing of his passing was a surprise in that he seemed so solid, so indestructible. Nobody lives forever but Ken was taken far too soon.
