Marilyn K. Olsen's Obituary
Marilyn Kay Olsen, age 84, passed away Thursday, February 1, 2024, at Trinity Health Muskegon Hospital. She was born April 27, 1939, in Muskegon to Lyman and Reva Hermanson and was a lifelong resident of the area. As a young woman, Marilyn and her family attended Our Savior's Lutheran Church. Marilyn graduated from Muskegon High School in 1957. On July 6, 1957, she married Lawrence Lee Olsen at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Muskegon. She, Larry, and their four sons were active members of Our Savior's for many years. Marilyn enjoyed celebrating her faith through song and was a church choir member. Marilyn was a loving wife and mother who stayed home to raise her four sons, always being available to put dinner on the table and run the four boys to their many school events including sports and music. Marilyn always wanted to be sure her sons had access to many experiences to ensure they became well-rounded men. Marilyn was a talented seamstress. She enjoyed sharing her talents with her family and friends. She made countless dresses for her niece and granddaughters. She loved to do crafts. For many years her beautiful work could be purchased at local art fairs. Most recently, Marilyn enjoyed crocheting and quilting. She enjoyed sharing her scarves and quilts with loved ones as well as quilting with the ladies at church who gave them to local people in need. Marilyn loved gifting to others with her talents. She would often "use up" her extra materials by making items for those in need. Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Lawrence Lee Olsen; their sons, Mark (Wendy), Scott (Kathy), Dana (Susan), Joel (Rosemary), grandchildren, Katie, (Justin Compton), Steven (Kelsey), Rachel (Charlie Hagund), Ashlee (Gavin Morris), Kailee, Amanda (fiancé Ryan), Madeline, Isabel, and Emily Olsen, great-grandchildren Everett and Chloe Compton and Kora Olsen, younger twin brothers, Jack and Jerry Hermanson, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and oldest brother Robert Hermanson. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, February 23, 2024, at Harbor of Grace Church (Our Savior's Lutheran), 1132 W. Southern Ave. Muskegon, MI 49441. Visitation will be on Thursday, February 22, 2024, from 3-5 pm at the same location. Memorial contributions can be made to Harbor of Grace Church General Fund.
