Marilyn Jean Sokolowski's Obituary
Marilyn Jean Sokolowski age 87, of Spring Lake, Michigan was born on February 21, 1936, to the late Daniel and Alice (Wells) DeWitt and passed away on September 11, 2023. Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Rudolph "Rudy" Sokolowski; her sister Bertha "Bert" (Edward "Ted") Ruch; a brother, Donald DeWitt. Survivors include her children, Greg Sokolowski; Steve (Sandy) Sokolowski, Shanna (Michael) Retzlaff; grandson, Brian (Emily) Retzlaff; two great-grandchildren, Lexi and Michael Retzloff; several nieces and nephews, especially, Dave and Debbie; along with a special acknowledgement and grateful appreciation for Linda Wiegand, a truly lifelong loved friend of over 80 years never living more than a mile from each other their entire lives.
Marilyn enjoyed her coffee time with good friends and sharing homemade baked goods. She enjoyed sewing her own clothes and adding artistic embroidery embellishments that she designed. She enjoyed bird watching at the feeders, especially the hummingbirds. Marilyn loved playing the organ and enjoyed old classic country music. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone at NOCH, Hospice of North Ottawa Community and Heartwood Lodge for their special care for our mother.
According to her wishes cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held. Contributions may be directed to Harbor Hospice.
