Marsha "Marti" Van Haecke's Obituary
Ms. Marsha ("Marti") M. Van Haecke, age 85, passed away Wednesday, June 4, 2025. She was born November 10, 1939, in Ludington, MI to Marshall and Regina (Kloss) Swanson. Marti served in the United States Army from 1959 to 1962 and was stationed in Germany during the building of the Berlin Wall. Marti then went on to build a life and start a family in New Jersey upon her return to the states and eventually returned to Michigan with her family in 1977. Marti later graduated from the University of Michigan with her master's degree in social work and became a well-respected social worker in the community and an avid Michigan Wolverines football fan. Marti retired from the Muskegon County Family Court in 2001 and continued her private practice for many years thereafter. Marti volunteered with the American Red Cross and Harbor Hospice during her spare time. She was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church. Marti loved spending time with her family and also loved to read and attend book clubs with her good friends. She also enjoyed going to the casino from time to time.
SURVIVORS include her children, Joseph Van Haecke, Lynn Schuiteman and Sharon (Duane) Woirol; grandchildren, Kenneth Medendorp, Andrew Schuiteman, Duane (D.J.) Woirol III, and Samantha (Jake) Wagenmaker; and soon-to-arrive great granddaughters, Layne Wagenmaker and Nora Wagenmaker; brother, Robert (Linda) Swanson; and many special family members and very good friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Marshall and Regina Swanson.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the Harmony Lake Apartment Homes Clubhouse, located at 1700 Harmony Lake Drive, Muskegon, Michigan 49444. Memorial contributions to Harbor Hospice will be appreciated.
