Martha Cotton's Obituary
Mrs. Martha Cotton age 104 went to be with the Lord on January 1st 2021. She was born on May 26th 1916 in Attala, Mississippi to Will Febbie and Sarah Thorton. Martha enjoyed both attending wrestling events with her grandchildren at the LC Walker Arena and baseball, especially the Detroit Tigers.
Martha was a devoted member, and mother of the church at New Hope Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor DW Tolbert. Mother Cotton became a member of the church in 1960 where she served on the Mission Ministry Board and Mothers Ministry Board under the leadership of Rev. JD Buckley. She enjoyed the fellowship with church members and also the visits when she could no longer attend due to her health.
She married the late Dee Allen Cotton in 1937 and to this union two children were born. Willie Cotton Sr. and Marva Jean Roberts. She was preceded in death by siblings, Lloyd, Janie, David, Annis, Erastus, and Elbert; her daughter, Marva; one grandson, Hiram and two great grandson, Victor Roberts and Willie Cotton III; honorary son, Mr. HC Smith.
She leaves to cherish her memory: a son, Willie Cotton Sr. of Muskegon; seven grandchildren: Aleshia, Hazel, Willie, Mark, Carla, Gary all of Muskegon and Patricia of Columbus Ohio; 20 great grandchildren; 38 great great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives; one honorary son, Mr. Sim Ray of Muskegon
Family Hour will be held at Shoreline Memorial Services, 137 E. Laketon Ave. Muskegon, Michigan on Thursday, January 14, 2021 from 12:00 noon until 1:00 p.m. with visitation continuing from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.
