Martha A. VanderWall's Obituary
Martha Anne VanderWall left loved ones here on earth to join her heavenly family on March 30, 2021 after a lengthy and courageous battle with dementia.
Born on February 4, 1940 to the late John A. Henry and Ida Mae (Martin) Henry. Martha grew up in Shelby, Michigan and attended Shelby High School where she met her husband Ronald G. VanderWall whom she married in October of 1957. Ron preceded her passing in 2017 as did her son Richard Allen VanderWall in infancy. Martha was also preceded in death by her two brothers, John Henry, and Arthur Henry.
Martha went on to be a wonderful and loving mother to her children, Mitchell (Vicki) VanderWall of Muskegon, Annette (Charles) VanderWall-Sterling of Hesperia, Bradley VanderWall of Muskegon. Martha is also survived by her sister, Frieda (Joe) Nichols of Shelby, eight grandchildren: eight great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews and beloved extended family and friends.
Martha was retired from both the State of Michigan and the County of Muskegon where she cared for those with mental and physical disabilities. Martha enjoyed trips to the local farmers market to see friends and relatives from Shelby in addition to sewing, reading, puzzles, and crafts along with a strong cup of coffee and good conversation. She was a longtime member of Fifth Reformed Church, 2330 Holton Road, where a Celebration of Life Service will be held on Tuesday, April 6, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. the Reverend Scott VanArendonk officiating. Martha's family will receive visitors one hour prior to her Celebration of Life Service from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers and in Martha's honor please consider a donation to Hospice of North Ottawa Community.
