Martin Fredrick Levandoski's Obituary
Martin Frederick Levandoski passed away peacefully at home, at the age of 94, on May 24, 2025. He was born on October 7, 1930, in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Fred and Lillian Levandoski. Marty married the love of his life, Garnet Hoover, on July 28, 1951, in San Antonio, Texas. They were married for 70 years and had three children Roxanna, John and Robin.
Marty enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1951. During his career in the Air Force, he and Garnet traveled the world. They were stationed in Germany, Illinois, France, Washington State, Alaska and Colorado. His Air Force career spanned twenty years. His last year was spent at Tan Son Nhut Air Base just outside Saigon, Vietnam.
Marty and Garnet returned home to Michigan in 1972. Marty decided he wanted to further his education and attempted to sign up for classes at Muskegon Community College. His training in television and radio instead earned him a position on the staff at MCC. He built a television studio at MCC and at his next place of employment, Quality Farm & Fleet. After he retired, he volunteered to help out at First Baptist Church with their televised religious programming.
He enjoyed living life to its fullest. He particularly loved a great steak or prime rib. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was always happy to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. He had a need for speed and loved driving anything with a motor - fast cars, motorcycles, snowmobiles, riding lawnmowers. He also loved to sing Karaoke. He was always hosting Karaoke parties in his Man Cave.
Marty was a member of the American Legion, the White Lake Eagles, and the local Amateur Radio Club.
Marty is survived by his daughter, Roxanna Herder; son, John (Vicki) Levandoski, daughter, Robin (Alan) Frees; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Garnet (Hoover); mother, Lillian Korjenek; father, Fred Levandoski; grandson, Jeff Herder and son-in-law, Larry Herder.
A Memorial Gathering will be held at the American Legion Post #69, 803 E. Colby Street, Whitehall, Michigan on Saturday, June 21, 2025, from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm, including military honors and a memorial service starting at 2:00 p.m. A luncheon will be served immediately following the memorial service.
