When Marty and I decided we would marry, we immediately thought of "The Barn" as our wedding and reception venue. We asked Jack and Melba for permission, and Melba was thrilled with the idea, while Jack was a bit hesitant-he loved his privacy. Immediately, Melba offered her help with anything and everything. As the day approached and we realized we could not have our dream outside ceremony due to a torrential rain storm and freezing temperatures, Melba did everything she could to rearrange the barn into our food service and dancing floor. We had the ceremony inside our "just in case" giant wedding tent, and then set up out tables and chairs for eating. Several friends arrived early to help as well, but we never could have pulled the wedding off without sweet Melba. I will never forget her kindness, nor her fortitude. She faced some personal hardships in the time we knew her with grace. Love you, Melba. May you now rest in peace. 🩷
You and I hiked many miles while discussing everything from the the weather to politics and either laughing or raging.....not sure what effect we had on any of it but we surely deepened our friendship. Love you kiddo. Go kick some ass. 💜☮️💜 Pam Lewis
I first came to know Melba - and her husband, Jack - while working at Pound Buddies Animal Shelter. Jack came to us with the idea of hosting blues music events on their N. Muskegon property, and raising donations for the shelter - -
Thus started an incredibly wonderful, soul-filling, and heart-warming friendship with these two beautiful people!
As with the rest of us left here, I will miss you, Melba! Your, and Jack's, infectious smile, laughter, hugs, and warmth will always remain in my heart. Until we see you again, I will think of you - and Jack - each day, and hold the memories of great times and conversations close to my heart!
May you now rest in God's loving arms!
