Myrna Lorraine Nic's Obituary
Myrna passed away peacefully in her sleep Friday, January 8, 2021, after a short illness. She was born in Muskegon, Michigan, on March 3, 1933, a date that was an instant conversation starter for Myrna. A naturally born extrovert, she was extremely precocious from an early age, and was known to frequently break into a song.
Myrna's many occupations include an early stint working for Anaconda Wire, GTE telephone Company, El Royal Party Store, Holcomb, Tomhave, & Sherman Court Reporters, Muskegon County Environmental Health, and eventually a long stretch in the basement of the jail downtown as secretary for the Muskegon Sheriff's Office.
Myrna was literally a trailblazer, exploring the Big Woods with her sons and laying down paths that are still visible today....and stomping through the woods and dunes of Hoffmaster and the U.P. She was a baseball player, golfer, bowler, avid reader, and huge fan of Jeopardy, only missing episodes when traveling the world. Her many journeys include Iceland, Australia, England, Hawaii, New Zealand, and Alaska, where she was marooned when travel was restricted after 9/11.
Myrna is survived by her sons David and Joel Nic; grandchildren Kathalyn, Karalyn, Aidan, and Fiona; great-granddaughter Scarlett; brother Herbie Meiner and sister Kay Elliott, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by parents Herbert and Margery (Andrus) Meiner, twin brothers Dick and Dan, and daughter Nancy Ann.
Myrna's final wishes are cremation and burial at East Dalton Oakhill Cemetery later this summer.
