Nancy Louise DeGryse's Obituary
Nancy passed away very suddenly and unexpectedly at her home on April 20th, peacefully exiting this world.
She was born in Detroit to Philip and Jean (Stricker) Klewer, who had relocated from Pittsburgh. She met her husband Morris, recently discharged from the Army after serving in Korea, at a dance. They eventually settled in Roseville, Michigan and had two children – Steven and Debra (Muldoon/Simmons).
Nancy was a devout Lutheran and an active member of Bethel Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years. She was an accomplished seamstress like her mother and grandmother before her, and enjoyed camping with friends, played tennis, loved card games and bingo, and was a huge Detroit Tigers fan. To spend more time with Morris, she also took up golf and soon was active in women’s leagues. An avid reader, she was never far from a book, with mysteries and historical fiction being her favorite genres.
After retiring from Michigan National Bank where she had worked as a teller and then as a manager, she and Morris moved to Jackson, Michigan. Here she remained active in the local Lutheran Church, volunteering for many community outreach programs, and shifted from sewing clothes to quilting, making beautiful quilts for family, friends and anybody else that asked.
Upon Morris’ death she moved to Grand Haven, where she spent the last couple years of her life active as always in social and charitable groups, as well as the local Lutheran Church. She also was able to and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who lived nearby.
She is survived by her son Steven (Tonya) and daughter Debra, grandchildren Quinn, Emma, Jacob (Christie), and Joshua (Audrey), and great-grandchildren Rosie, Elliot, and Stevie. She was preceded in death by her husband Morris, her dear sister Sally Dekold, and her granddaughter Erin Evenstar. Rest in Peace.
