Nelson George Briggs' Obituary
Nelson George Briggs age 87 was born on January 24, 1936, to the late Harvey E. and Mildred (LeBaron) Briggs and passed away at home with his family on December 21, 2023. He was married to Kathleen Briggs at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Muskegon on January 13, 1956 - a Friday. Survivors include three children; Chris Sr. (Cynthia -Howe) Briggs, Jill Lacy, and Colleen Briggs; grandchildren Chris Jr. (Melissa), Nathan (Sandy), Adrienne (Carl III), and Paul; step-grandchildren Meredith (Brodie), Adam (Megan), and Jacqueline (Elijah); great-grandchildren Nathan Jr., Nikolai, Hali, Walter, Felix, Malcolm, and William; step-great-grandchildren Keegan, Apollo, Lumen, Millicent, Jeffery, and Lucas. sister, Carol Marty; brother-in-law, Howard James Carney.
Nelson was retired from Howmet after many years of service. Nelson spent many years in manufacturing; also owning his own independent floral delivery service for several years. His last employment was a long-haul trucker, and he and his beloved Kathy drove as a team, him driving, her keeping him company. He loved the sunsets at Muskegon State Park watching nature from his window, and in his younger years, hunting deer with his family. He will be remembered for his quiet support, love of chocolate, and joyfully tossing children, and grandchildren in the air and making them laugh with joy, much to the consternation of aunts and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and stepparents, sisters, Shirley and Ellen, brothers, Richard, Karl and John.
A graveside memorial will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 30, 2023, at Laketon Township Cemetery, Pastor Scott VanArendonk officiating. Inurnment will be next to his wife Kathleen. The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors at Harbor Hospice for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation to Harbor Hospice.
