Nelson W. Phillips Jr.'s Obituary
Nelson W. Phillips Jr., age 74, was born in Meridian, Mississippi on July 23, 1942 to the late Nelson W. and Odell (Hopkins) Phillips; Nelson passed away at home on Friday, July 21, 2017. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, John R. Phillips. Nelson is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Velma; his son, Nelson W. (Catherine) Phillips III; grandchildren, Catherine "Tess"?, Nelson IV, "Q"?, William "Will"?; brother, Aaron Phillips; sisters-in-law, Cynthia Phillips and Joyce Phillips; and many extended family members, friends, and Kappa brothers here and around the county. Nelson retired from the Holton Public School System and Quality Farm and Fleet. He was an avid sports fan who enjoyed golf, the St. Louis Cardinals, and Michigan Football where he has held season tickets for over 30 years. He was a graduate of Southern Illinois University and member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity. According to his wishes cremation has taken place. Nelson was a longtime member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, (1006 Third Street, Muskegon) where he served as Senior Warden, sang in the choir and where a Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 4, 2017. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to St. Paul's Episcopal Church or Harbor Hospice Foundation.
