Norma Jean LaVasseur's Obituary
Norma Jean (Calkins) LaVasseur 76 of Muskegon, passed away at home on Saturday, May 4, 2019. Born on September 3, 1942, in Muskegon, she was the daughter of Stuart and Hazel (Gannon) Calkins. Norma was a Muskegon High School graduate. On June 25, 1960, she married George Andrew LaVasseur, whom she remained married to for 58 wonderful years until the time of her death. She is survived by her loving husband, George LaVasseur; her sister, Lenora Sargent; her four adoring children, Lisa (Brian) Smith, Eric (Manne) LaVasseur, Kathy (Scott) Babbitt, Mark (Pam) LaVasseur and Kimberly (Jesse) Bastin. She also had many grandchildren: John (Tana) Conley, Christopher Conley, Matthew Smith, Kaitlyn Smith, Jason (Erin) Matthews, Monica (Charles) Buys, Anna Morrison, and Misty Harper and three great grandchildren. Norma was a foster parent to numerous children for over 25 years. She was an avid lover of pets. According to his wishes, cremation has taken place. The immediate family will be holding a private celebration of her life. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to the American Humane Society or the animal shelter of your choice.
