Richard O. Swanson's Obituary
Richard O. Swanson of North Muskegon, MI passed unexpectedly early Friday morning, August 11, 2017 at home of apparent heart failure. Richard was born April 23, 1943 in Escanaba, MI, son of Milton and Helen (Coon) Swanson of Escanaba, MI. Richard had been in poor health for two years prior to his passing. Richard is survived by three sons, Robert (Fruitport, MI), James (South Carolina), Douglas (Bay City, MI), and one daughter, Deborah (Shelby Township, MI); one stepson Mark Snyder (Denver, CO), one step- daughter Lisa Snyder Thompson (Muskegon, MI). Two brothers, Robert (Laurel, MD) and Mark (Maria) (Cranberry Township, PA) also survive Richard. He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia in 2010. Richard was a 1961 graduate of Escanaba Senior High School and attended Michigan Technological University receiving a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in 1970. He successfully navigated three separate careers as sole owner of a pizza business, co-owner of a heating and air conditioning firm, and ultimately working in plant management for the Dilesco Corporation in Muskegon, MI from 1980 until retiring in 1998.Richard enjoyed several passions in his life including active engagement with the Central United Methodist Church, participating in stock car racing with his sons, and was an avid model train enthusiast. He also had a particular love for Mackinac Island with annual trips involving various family and friends over the last 15 years. A celebration of Richard"s life will be conducted at the Central United Methodist Church in Muskegon, MI on Thursday, August 17, 2017 at 11am.
