Robert W. Dr. Christie's Obituary
Dr. Robert Wilson Christie, age 90, passed away on Monday, June 18, 2018. He was born in Muskegon, Michigan on January 21, 1928 to Dr. Robert Wilson Christie and Viola (Casper) Christie. A lifelong resident of Muskegon, he graduated from the University of Michigan School of Dentistry, and then served as a Lieutenant in the US Navy as a dentist during the Korean War. He later established a dental practice in Muskegon lasting for more than 40 years. He was very civic minded, and devoted his time towards numerous causes, including but not limited to; the Kiwanis Club of Muskegon, the White Lake Community Library, the Whitehall District Schools, the Community Foundation of Muskegon, and several boards and foundations benefiting the local area and beyond. After retirement, he participated in numerous dental missionary trips to Nicaragua, and was instrumental in building a dental clinic in that country.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Louise Lee Christie. He is survived by his four daughters; Sheila Daugherty, Diana (James) Weyand, Rebecca (David) Gmeiner, and Cynthia (Keith) Crandall. He dearly loved his nine grandchildren, Matthew and Sean Klaver, Henry Weyand, Christopher Gmeiner, Kyle, Kelly, Christie, Kevin and Kurt Crandall, and two great-grandchildren, Grace and Ben Klaver. He also leaves behind his beloved sister, Mary Eherenman. Honoring his wishes, there will be a private memorial service for the family at a later date.
