Robert D. Schwartz "Rob"'s Obituary
Robert (Rob) Schwartz, 66, of North Muskegon, passed away on Wednesday, September 25, 2019 at Poppen Residence-Harbor Hospice from Glioblastoma surrounded by his family. He was born May 14, 1953, the son of Charles and Ruth Schwartz, in Dearborn, Michigan. Rob graduated from The Leelanau Preparatory High School and received his Bachelor Degree from Alma College. He went on to Michigan State University to get his Masters of Business Administration in the School of Hospitality Business. He worked in the food service industry for 42 years: in operations and management, as well as having his own business as a food service consultant. His career had him living in 7 states and traveling across the United States, Canada, Mexico and Argentina. He spoke fluent Spanish. Rob co-authored, with Art Manask, the book titled:
Restaurants, Catering and Facility Rentals-Maximizing Earned Income.
Rob always found the time to ski in the winter and in the summer months he enjoyed golfing at beautiful White Lake Golf Club where he was on the Board of Directors and held the position of Treasurer. He split his time between golfing and boating on White Lake and Lake Michigan. He raced his MC scow every weekend at the White Lake Yacht Club where he served on the board and was Commodore in 2005. He loved sharing boat rides on the pontoon with family and friends.
Rob was also a member of the Eagles, White Lake Association, Muskegon Heritage Museum, Arts Council of White Lake-Nuveen Center and supported the endowment for renovating The Playhouse of White Lake.
Rob is survived by his wife of 44 years, Sally; children, Emily (Charles) Hildebrant of Muskegon, MI and Nicholas (Daniela Candillari) Schwartz of New York City, NY; grandchildren, Patrick Hildebrant and Andrew Hildebrant of Muskegon, MI. Also survived by brothers Wendell (Jim) of Palm Springs, CA and Wayne (Boo) of Cardinal, VA, sisters-in-law Molly (Henry) Bazydlo, Joanne Seaver Schwartz and Gretchen (Dave) Starks-Martin, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Rob loved traveling with Sally to New York City to hear Nick play bass trombone with The New York City Ballet Orchestra. He also spent weekends at soccer fields and basketball courts to watch the grandsons play. Rob had started the grand-boys in skiing and sailing hoping they would also enjoy a lifetime on the slopes, on the water and on golf course greens.
