Robert L. Slocum's Obituary
Robert Lee Slocum, "Bob" "Bobby", age 77, of Whitehall, MI passed away on Wednesday, November 26, 2025. He was born on February 20, 1948, to Robert and Carmen Slocum and went on to graduate from Fruitport High School with the Class of 1966. Bob joined the U.S. Marine Corp having served in combat during the Vietnam War. He was proud to serve his country and very proud to be a U.S. Marine.
After returning from Vietnam, he married Judi Landis in 1972 until her passing in 1994. Through his work at Howmet Corp., he later met Karen (Stiller) Taylor in 1998, and they were joined in marriage on January 20, 2010.
Bob worked for Sealed Power for over 20 years and for Howmet as a supervisor until he retired. Bob was an active member of the VFW, American Legion and the White Lake Eagles. He loved Christmas, enjoyed fishing and long drives in the countryside which became known as "Slocum shortcuts". Bob was an avid sports fan of all Michigan sports from professional and collegiate level to local sports teams. He thoroughly enjoyed giving back to his community by donating to many organizations and supporting local community fundraisers. He had a unique sense of humor, and you could always count on him to be honest. Bob was loyal and supportive to all he knew and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Karen; his children, John (Jessica) Slocum, Jamie, Joni (Jason) McCollum; grandchildren, Rachel (Balazs) Juhasz, Anna Slocum and Alex Slocum; one great-grandchild; siblings, Steve Slocum, Deb (Don) Verwey and Paul (Kathy) Slocum; many nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his first wife, Judi Slocum; his parents, Robert and Carmen Slocum; sister, Joni Slocum; parents-in-law, Roy and Grace Stiller; sisters-in-law, Paula Slocum, Claudia Lynn and Rhonda Beckley; brother-in-law, Wayne "Buck" Stiller and special great-nephew, Zachary Moser.
A Celebration of Bob's Life will be held at the White Lake Eagles, 1204 S. Lake St., Whitehall, MI 49461 on Sunday, December 21, 2025, with a brief service at 1:00 PM with military honors followed by a time of food and gathering in remembrance of Bob.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Bob's memory to: The Wounded Warrior Project, The Noah Project or MOKA. Arrangements by Shoreline Memorial Services of Whitehall.
