Russell S. Sheffer's Obituary
Russell "Russ" Sheffer, was born in Muskegon, Michigan on July 29, 1966, and passed away on December 30, 2025.
Russ grew up on James Street in Muskegon and was raised by his parents, Carol and Eugene Sheffer. He attended Muskegon High School and graduated with the class of 1984.
In recent years, Russ worked as a maintenance worker, a role he truly enjoyed because it allowed him to help others. He was known for going above and beyond for anyone in need. When he wasn’t working, Russ loved spending time with friends and family, telling jokes, laughing, listening to rock music and showcasing his “Self-Proclaimed” dance moves.
Russ was always on the move and loved getting in his car and hitting the highway. An avid outdoorsman, he relished traveling, kayaking, attending concerts, playing horseshoes and cornhole, sitting by a fire, and participating in several pool leagues, especially on Sunday nights throughout the area. He enjoyed spending time at his family’s deer camp spending countless hours in his tree stand.
Russ is preceded in death by his father, Eugene Sheffer and a brother, Rick Sheffer. Survivors include his children, Derrick Sheffer and Desera Sheffer; five grandchildren, Jersey, Jordynn, Jayce, Dustin and Phoenix; his mother, Carol Ann Van Hoven; two siblings, Randy (Angie) Sheffer and Robin (Rodney) Stenberg; several nieces and nephews.
Russ, a “Gift of Life” donor, was able to provide both a kidney transplant and a liver transplant to two individuals after his passing.
Following his wishes, cremation has taken place, and a Celebration of Life Gathering will be held at the Lakeside Eagles Aerie #3306, located at 2355 W. Sherman Blvd. in Nortons Shores. The gathering will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family in care of Desera Sheffer.
