Samuel Enlow Alford's Obituary
On May 11th, 2024, Samuel Enlow Alford passed away peacefully at the Harbor Hospice Poppen Residence. He passed away a few minutes before 9:00 PM to a brilliant red sunset with clouds forming a staircase to usher Sam to heaven. Later that night people reported seeing the Northern Lights. Sam knew how to make an entrance to the finally resting place.
Samuel and Eva enjoyed 57 of marriage and where they called White Road: Home. Sam was one of six children born to William and Mary Alford in Obion, Tennessee. In his early years he served in the United State Navy from 1955 to 1959 as a diesel mechanic on the USS ARNEB AKA 56, an Andromeda-class attack cargo ship in the North Atlantic. Returning to Michigan he worked in lumber yards, Ford Motor Company, Brunswick, and Teledyne as a machinist.
Sam was an avid outdoors person who loved hunting with his favorite coon hound, Straggler. He fished numerous riverbeds, lakes, and trout streams with fishing friend Dick Critchett.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Mary; brother, Tom; twin sisters, Helen and May Gay; and a daughter, Rhonda. Survivors include his wife, Eva; son, Dirk, daughter, Tammy; granddaughters, Samantha Lyn Grenell whom he raised since she was 4 months old, Deserae, Karen, and Sonya; grandsons, Joshua, Steven, Michael and Shain; great-grandchildren, Brantley, Lacey, Colton Santo, Clint, Ella Bechtol, Kaden, Payton, Steven {SI} Weaver.
We will always carry your memory in our hearts. Please join us for Samuel's Celebration of Life, on Saturday, May 25th, 2024, at the Don Rea VFW Post 8846, located at 1061 Witham Drive in North Muskegon, from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. for food, Miller Lite, and to share stories and photos.
