Sheila Owens Rowell "Keyla"'s Obituary
Sheila "Keyla" Owens Rowell was born on February 18, 1959 in St. Louis, Missouri. She was the daughter of the late Norma Jean Owens and the late Estelle Owens. Sheila was a graduate of Muskegon High School, Class of 1977. Sheila accepted Christ at an early age and later in life became a member of Holy Trinity Church of God under the leadership of Bishop Nathaniel Wells. Sheila served over 10 years in the United States military services, including the Army and the Navy Reserves, until her medical retirement. She was an avid reader and educator, author, freelance writer, and fashion designer. Sheila's love for education earned her dual master's degrees in Instructional Technology and Education, and ultimately a Doctorate Degree in Education from Liberty University. She was an Adjunct Professor at Central Texas College where she taught English composition courses. Sheila also worked as a substitute teacher for Muskegon County and Muskegon Community College, all while becoming a foster parent.
Sheila was a beautiful person inside and out. Her smile and spirit lit up a room. She was the one person in the family who acknowledged everyone's birthday and accomplishments. Sheila was always willing to help, and if she couldn't help, she pointed you in the right direction. She always kept in touch with the family through Facebook and Facetime. She will truly be missed. Sheila leaves to cherish her beloved children, Darnell (Shantina) Reynolds of Valdosta, GA, Sir Aaron (Sabrina) Rowell of San Antonio, TX, Jared Rowell of Killeen, TX, Daren Rowell of Killeen, TX; grandchildren, Dakarai Reynolds, Chloe Reynolds, Leyah Reynolds, Jakaria Harrison, Za'Miere Foster, La'Quarius Harrison, Alex Daniel Krauskopf, Antoine Donovan Rowell; brothers, James M. Owens, Kevin C. (Jane) Owens, Danny (Janet) Owens; sisters, Marilyn Simmons, Wynetta (Jimmy) Ledell, Evelyn (Paul) Owens, and Patrice (Cortez) Branch all of St. Louis, Missouri; former husband and friend, Aaron Rowell. Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her grandmother, Lucy Hayes.
Funeral Services will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, February 23, 2019 at Beulah Baptist Church, 2601 Manz Street, Muskegon Heights, Michigan, with Pastor James Williams officiating. Visitation will be held at Shoreline Memorial Services, 137 E. Laketon Ave. on Friday, February 22, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Interment will be in Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, Michigan.
