Sonja Gabrielle Johnson, age 26, passed away on August 18, 2025, at 3:48 PM, leaving behind a legacy of light, laughter, and love that touched everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Born on May 12, 1999, Sonja was a radiant soul whose energy could brighten even the darkest room. Her vibrant spirit was matched only by her generosity and creativity, especially when it came to her passion for being a Makeup Artist/Hair Color Specialist. Whether it was a bold new color or simply lending a listening ear while working her magic, Sonja made people feel beautiful inside and out.
She was the beloved daughter of Regina L. Duke and Patrick N. Johnson, and a devoted mother to her two cherished children, Greyson Evan Doyly and Ezmae Iris Johnson, who were the center of her universe. Sonja's love for her children was fierce and unwavering, and her joy in motherhood was evident in every smile, every story, and every moment she spent with them.Sonja is also survived by her loving sisters, Morgan Parmer and Brittani Bouwman who shared in her laughter, adventures, and unbreakable bond. She was preceded in death by her dear Aunt Robin Grotenhuis, whose memory Sonja carried close to her heart.
Sonja was the beloved granddaughter of Monroe and Helen Duke, and Albert and Patricia Johnson, whose love and legacy helped shape the beautiful person she became.
She is additionally remembered by Uncle Douglas Grotenhuis, Cousin Jordan VanBuskirk, Brother-in-Law Lance Bouwman, Nephew Zenith Bouwman and Stepfamily Maggie Johnson, and Abby Hanson.
To know Sonja was to witness someone who truly lived-who danced through life with fearless grace, who embraced others with warmth and compassion, and who never missed a chance to make someone feel seen and celebrated.
