Thomas Edward Vanderwest's Obituary
Thomas "Tom" Edward Vanderwest age 75 was born in Muskegon to the late Melvin and Gladys (Turner) Vanderwest on January 3, 1949, and passed away on August 18, 2024. Tom is survived by his wife of 50 years, Sharon S. Vanderwest; brothers-in-law, John (Ginann) Green, Charles Green, David (Judy) Green; an uncle, Sam (Paulette) Vanderwest; several nieces, nephews, cousins, fishing buddies, and friends at the Overboard Restaurant. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard and James Vanderwest.
Tom graduated from Muskegon Heights High School in 1967 and retired from Lomac Chemical. He was a charter boat captain for 35 years fishing out of Grand Haven on the "Woods and Waters". He had been a member of the Grand Haven Charter Boat Association, Michigan Charter Boat Association, the Grand Haven Steelheaders, and an avid Detroit and MSU sports fan. Tom and Sharon always enjoyed taking rides down to the channel and Lake Michigan.
According to his wishes cremation has taken place and no services will be held. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to the Juvenile Diabetes Association or St. Jude Children's Hospital.
In memory of Tom, "take your kids fishing", and someday they may be Captain of the ship.
