Valerie R. Durante's Obituary
Valerie Regina (Mezynski) Durante of Muskegon, MI died at Metro Hospital, surrounded by her family on January 2, 2018. She was 68 years old.
Valerie is survived by her children, Frank (Jillian) Durante of Grand Haven, MI and Valerie Sophia Durante of Whitehall, MI; Siblings Carol (Frank) Tetzlaff of Fruitport, MI, Paula Mezynski of Rio Vista, CA, David (Neila) Mezynski, of Campbell, CA; and many cousins, nieces and nephews and friends.
Valerie was born on August 12, 1949 in Muskegon, MI to Emil and Mary Mezynski. Valerie graduated from Muskegon High School in 1967. She continued her education, first earning a Laboratory Animal Technologist certification from Michigan State University in 1971, then her Licensed Practical Nurse degree in 1986 and her Registered Nurse Degree in 1992 from Muskegon Community College. Lastly, she completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Ferris State University in 1996.
In addition to her occupation of compassion and service to her community, Valerie was a productive member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. After her retirement, Valerie volunteered with the American Red Cross Disaster Relief and countless hours of service at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.
Valerie was a passionate equestrian, dog enthusiast, and loved all kinds of animals on her farm in Whitehall. She enjoyed her gardens and cultivating flowers to share with her family. She loved road trips to New York and would attend the Kentucky Derby as often as she could. Valerie was very energetic and appreciated biking, walking her dogs, attending community activities such as art fairs, concerts, and the Farmer's market.
A Memorial Service is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 1215 E Apple Ave, Muskegon, MI 49442 with a reception to follow at the Church's Banquet Facility. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Valerie's life. Memorial contributions can be made to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.
